Design Problem for a Sustainable Future
One of the most significant impacts we have had on the oceans is through our use of plastic shopping bags. On average, a plastic shopping bag is used for only 12 minutes before being discarded, contributing to the 8 million tonnes of plastic that enter the oceans each year. This plastic litter breaks down into microplastics, which are ingested by marine life and eventually make their way onto our dinner plates, causing negative health impacts.
CARRA Seaweed - Service Design Solution
Carra is a plastic bag alternative made from sustainably sourced seaweed that completely biodegrades in just 3 months, leaving no trace in oceans. Customers buy dried seaweed from the grocery store and assemble it into bags with a DIY kit, getting 5-10 uses out of each bag. When the bag has reached its final use, customers can throw it into a garden to use as fertilizer.
Introducing Carra, the sustainable solution to single-use plastic bags! Our bags are made from sustainably sourced seaweed and completely biodegrade in just 3 months, leaving no trace in the oceans. Say goodbye to plastic and hello to an eco-friendly way to carry your groceries and other items. Choose Carts and join the fight against plastic pollution while supporting a healthier planet.
There is an urgent need to disrupt our reliance on plastic, which is why we are working to replace plastic bags with biodegradable seaweed bags. It is time to reimagine the grocery bag and create a more sustainable solution.
